Respite House (out of home)

Respite House offers parents and primary caregivers a temporary break from the demands of caring for their family member with a disability. Everyday of the week, 365 days a year, the program provides hourly, day or overnight "like home" supervision in a comfortable safe environment with room and board possible for short-term or long-term stays.

The service makes it possible for caregivers to: give other family members their undivided attention; have a night out on their own; catch-up on much needed sleep; attend social functions; handle work obligations, or take a vacation. The "break" offered by out-of-home respite can also be viewed as a preventative service for neutralizing impending crisis in the household attributable to tension. If there are family expectations that an individual may eventually seek permanent group home placement, the Respite House with its highly skilled staff allows for a great way to experience living away from home for the first time.

The free standing community-based respite house serves people ages 13 and older. There is no out-of-pocket cost for individuals enrolled in the HCBS Medicaid Waiver program. Please call (845) 692-4444 or click here to contact the Respite House. Advance reservations are required. The intake process is a matter of state regulation and may take as long as 2 weeks to complete.

Children’s Respite Weekends

In recent years Crystal Run Village, Inc. has expanded the Respite House program to provide overnight, day and evening visits for individuals between the ages of 5 and 12 by hosting a series of planned Children’s Respite Weekends. Call for registration materials or have your family member’s Medicaid Service Coordinator provide us with the required enrollment information.
