Respite Program

The CRVI Respite Program provides supervision, housing, activities, and basic services on a temporary basis for people with developmental disabilities. The service offers parents, caregivers, and family care providers’ relief from their responsibilities in the case of illness, the need for a few hours of leisure or extended vacation, family emergencies, or for just a day or weekend away.

The Respite is a modern, spacious residence offering common areas conducive to building friendships, with bedrooms with cable and flat-screen TV’s. Other amenities include handicap-accessible baths meant for privacy. A trained staff of direct care professionals provides Twenty-four hour supervision. All full-time staff are medication certified. The Respite is located in a rural setting with easy access to amusements, shopping, and religious services.

The Office of People with Developmental Disabilities and its Home and Community Based Services waiver program provides funding for CRVI Respite. In the interest of health and safety, oversight is according to the health and safety regulations of Individualized Residential Alternatives (IRA).

Who is eligible?

The Respite program welcomes persons with developmental disabilities, autism and spectrum disorders. Individuals 13 years of age and older are served primarily. Respite guests must be ambulatory, must be able to be maintained in a community residence environment and not require 24 hour nursing care. In addition, individuals must not require a one-to-one level of care.

Mandated documentation includes the following: copy of current Individualized Services Plan (ISP) listing CRVI Free Standing Respite as a service and Regional Office Service Authorization; documentation of current medical exam (within one year), copy of all immunizations/TB tests, list of all current physicians and their medications, treatment orders, and copies of current medication prescriptions, completion of HIPPA privacy protection forms for all physicians and providers.

What does it cost?

A stay at the Respite is a Waiver Service. There is no out-of-pocket cost for individuals enrolled in the HCBS Medicaid Waiver program, who have a Medicaid number but are not necessarily receiving waiver services.
