U.S. House of Representatives Introduce FY 2019 Budget Measure
This week, the U.S. House of Representatives introduced its budget plan for the federal fiscal year 2019 budget. Entitled Budget for a Brighter American Future the measure contains provisions to implement regulatory reforms, promote more efficient government and achieve at least $302 billion in deficit reduction through the process of reconciliation. Key provisions of the plan propose to save $5.4 trillion on Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and through repeal of the Affordable Care Act over a 10 year period. As proposed, reconciliation instructions are outlined enabling 11 House authorizing committees to determine how those savings will be achieved.
The House Budget Committee began the process to mark-up the resolution which opens the measure for discussion and amendments. Mark-up will continue today and the House may vote on the measure next week.
